Obituary for Kurth Hilding Johnson

Pisgah Forest – Kurth H. Johnson, 95, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015.

He was the son of the late Hjalmar and Dagmar Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marguerite “Magee” Johnson.

Mr. Johnson graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and obtained his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie in 1946. He was hired by Dupont as an engineer in 1941 and progressed through engineering through many rolls in manufacturing, sales, marketing and general management. He became a Vice President and Corporate Officer in 1978. He provided leadership for four worldwide businesses involving engineering, printing, electronic and healthcare products and services. He served on the corporate board of pensions and benefits. He served on the advisory boards of all the Dupont businesses in Europe. He was a board member of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Delaware and was the head of the United Funds efforts for Dupont of Delaware. He was an elder of the Presbyterian Church and served on the board of Kentmere which was a non-profit nursing home in Delaware. He was also a 50 year member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Surviving are his sons; Gregory W. Johnson and wife Mary Carolyn of Phoenix, VA and Bruce K. Johnson of Etowah.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

At Mr. Johnson’s request, no services will be held.
