Obituary for Jo Ann Zanone (Wade)

Sapphire – Jo Ann Zanone, born on March 30, 1935 to Charles and Vera Wade, passed away at her home on Friday, January 8, 2016.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her brother; Pete Wade, her son; John (Jack) Zanone and her grandson, Timothy Bennett.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joseph M. Zanone, her daughters Lynn (Mike) Bennett; Ann (Dana) Dotson; Peggy (Matthew) Kennedy; her sons Joseph M. Zanone, Jr.; Patrick Zanone(Bob Madsen); Bryan (Melissa) Zanone; her grandchildren Emily Bennett(Brian) Chellgren; Maggie Bennett( David) Lindell; Carrie Dotson; Jordan Dotson (Brian) Berkstresser; Kyley Kennedy (Perry) Protis; Taylor Kennedy; Ed ( Valerie) Silva; Alex (Rachel) Silva; Andy Zanone; Hannah Zanone; Kristian Zanone; Mason Zanone and Charlotte Zanone. She and Joe share the joy of having 14 great grandchildren. The Zanone’s also have numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews!


Jo Ann was born in Whistler, Alabama and moved with her family to Memphis, Tennessee where she met Joe as a teenager. They were married on June 5, 1954 and preceded to have seven children. They moved to Dallas, Texas in 1966 with Joe’s company, where they raised their family for 16 years before moving to South Florida, then to Atlanta where they resided until they retired to the beautiful mountain of Sapphire, NC.

Jo Ann and Joe were active in the Catholic Church wherever they lived. They instilled compassion in their children by living a missional life, reaching out to those in need through their church as youth leaders, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and shelter ministries. Jo Ann served as a Stephen’s Minister and worked as a volunteer in the early days of AIDS education for the Diocese of Atlanta at the Jerusalem House. Jo Ann was instrumental in beginning the Blanket Ministry at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Sapphire, NC. She was creative in many ways. Jo Ann was an artist and blessed many friends and family with her paintings and teachings. As a mom, she was involved in all aspects of her children’s lives. She had an uncanny way of making everyone feel special and love unconditionally!

A memorial service will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 3011 US Hwy 64, Sapphire, NC 28774 on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 11am. A reception will follow at Sapphire Valley Resort Community Center.
