James William “J.W.” Owen
James William “J.W.” Owen, 74, of the Silversteen Community in Lake Toxaway, passed away on April 7, 2016.
A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Rev. Ranzie Owen and Martha Shook Owen. Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Jolene Rhodes Owen; son, Craig Owen and wife April of Silversteen; daughter, April Alm of Silversteen; sister, Barbara Cobb and husband Tommy of Raleigh; brother, Rev. Wayne Owen of Brevard; aunt, Mary Davis of Big Ridge; sister-in-law, Judy Burrell of Brevard; sister-in-law, Edith Rhodes of Jacksonville, FL; and eight nieces, five nephews, four great-nieces and six great-nephews.
J.W. worked for Olin/Ecusta for 43 years from the time he was 18 years old until it shut down. He gained many wonderful lifetime friends from working there.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
J.W. loved the property he shared with his wife, Jolene and took great pride in mowing and gardening. He provided a good home and his children have great memories of fishing and swimming at their lake. He loved to travel and had the opportunity to go on several trips out west. He loved his little dog “Sammy”.
In lieu of traditional arrangements, an informal Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Macedonia Baptist Church Fellowship Hall with lunch provided for family and friends.
