Obituary for Jean Marguerite Fuhrer (Bartro)

Brevard – Jean B. Fuhrer, 94, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Tore’s Home with her beloved daughter by her side.

Jean grew up in Dobbs Ferry, NY, daughter of the late Werner and Marguerite Bartro.

She began dating her neighbor and love of her life, Bill Fuhrer while she was a young teenager when he carried her books home for her in junior high. Jean studied at STONLEIGH College in Rye, NY and married Bill at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida where he was training to fly Corsair’s off an aircraft carrier in the Pacific arena. Upon his return from WWII, she gave birth to their first child, Robert in 1946/1947. She and Bill settled in the suburban Connecticut town of Fairfield and raised their family, which by then included daughter, Pamela, and later, Kim. Calling Fairfield, CT home for over 30 years, Jean loved antiques, decorating and gardening. She spent her summers on Fairfield Beach and sailing out of Black Rock Yacht Club with her beloved husband. Jean and Bill moved to Guilford, CT for almost two decades until Bill’s death in 2001, after 60 years of a deeply committed marriage.

Briefly calling Laconia, NH, and then Brevard home for the last 12 years, Jean enjoyed reading in her later years and daily visits from her daughter, Pam Fuhrer Goodhue of Brevard. She also leaves daughter Kim Fuhrer Weeks of Laconia, NH and five grandchildren of whom she was so very proud of all they were accomplishing and was always entertained with the eventful stories of their lively escapades. They are Laura Goodhue Knappmiller of New York City, Samuel Goodhue of Boulder, CO and Trevor and Bradly Weeks of Laconia, NH. Jean also lived to see her first great granddaughter, Sylvie.

The family will hold a private service in Florida at a later date.
