Obituary for Dennis David Ducker

Dennis David Ducker
In the pre-dawn hours of Christmas morning, Dennis David Ducker slipped peacefully from this life to the next. A native of Transylvania County, Dennis was born on May 16, 1946, to Sherman D. Ducker and Christine M. Ducker. He was preceded in death by his father. Dennis is survived by his mother Christine Ducker and his brother Roger Ducker and wife Sonja of Asheville.
An outstanding student, Dennis was educated in the public schools of Transylvania County and continued his education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was active in many campus activities.
Dennis chose a career as a public servant, serving as Assistant Treasurer of the State of North Carolina. In that position he was responsible for overseeing the Retirement Fund for all state employees. He was proud of the fact that when he retired the program was fully funded. He retired after 30 years and was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his distinguished service to North Carolina.
To all who knew him, Dennis was a true character, never shy about expressing his opinion. He will be remembered for his sense of style, his quick wit, and his brilliant mind.
Always impeccably dressed, Dennis made a fashion statement wherever he went. He will be remembered for his DDD (triple D) monogram and his masterfully tailored Brooks Brothers suits.
His sense of humor and quick wit were his trademark. He could hold an audience spellbound with story after story – some true and some not.
Dennis had a brilliant mind and was a treasure trove of information of both well known facts and obscure details. His knowledge ran the gamut from finance to history to etiquette to a storehouse of trivial facts which he could call forth upon any worthy occasion. If one needed financial advice or to know which fork to use at the dinner table or what to wear to any given occasion, Dennis would have a sure answer.
Dennis was proud of the fact the he was a lifelong Democrat. He was an astute observer of the political scene, but when it came time to vote, there was no uncertainty for him – his choice was always Democrat.
Those who knew Dennis and enjoyed his company will remember him as he would like to be remembered – as a devoted son and a dapper, debonair Democrat.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 29, at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home. The Reverend Hank Moffitt will officiate. A reception will follow the service.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Dennis’ favorite charity, The Sharing House, c/o Transylvania Christian Ministries, Post Office Box 958, Brevard, NC 28712.
