Obituary for Joseph Michael Parker

Brevard - Joseph Michael Parker, 62, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017.
He was the son of Jeanette H. Ford and the late Garris D. Parker.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree at North Carolina State University and Master’s degree at Western Carolina University. He was a teacher, counselor, and coach at several schools including West Henderson High School, Brevard High School, and Rosman High School.
Joe loved the outdoors, especially fly fishing, and volunteered at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education following his retirement. He was a very talented musician, playing several instruments and singing in many churches and as a member of Fairhaven Quartet.
He was member of First Baptist Church, Brevard. He was a volunteer firefighter and lifetime member of Connestee Fire Department. He also volunteered as a grief counselor for Hospice.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son Christopher and wife Belinda, and twin granddaughters Reagan and Rylee of Flatwoods, KY; brother Bill Parker and wife Tracey of Hendersonville, NC and brother Gary Parker and wife Barbara of Apex, NC; nieces and nephews Emily and husband Dustin, Adam and wife Jamie, Will, Claire, Jonathan, and Michael; great-nephews Owen and Bryce.
Joe loved the visits from his Hospice Team. The family will be eternally grateful for the compassion, kindness, and care provided by every member of the team.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church, 94 South Gaston Street, Brevard, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
