Obituary for Margaret Jean Chappell (Long)

Margaret Jean Chappell (Long) 1939-2017

Margaret Long Chappell, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 15, 2017.

A lifelong resident of Transylvania County, she was an incredibly loving wife, mother, grandmother, second-mother and friend to so many. She devoted her life to caring for and nurturing all those around her. Her greatest passions were cultivating her beautiful gardens, spending time with her family and friends, which included sharing her wonderful meals.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Long; sister, Cornelia Gooding; two infant granddaughters Lauren Chappell and Angel Ruggieri.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Robert Berdine Chappell, daughters, Sheila Ashford and husband Blane, Neisha Ruggieri and husband Frank; son, Tony Chappell and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Ansley Chappell and husband Kurt, Tristan Chappell, Alexa, Nicole and Sophia Ruggieri; sisters Gaitha Smith, Delma Dorn; and brother Ted Long; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life visitation will be held Sunday afternoon June 18, 2017, from 3:00-5:00 pm, at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, 181 S Caldwell, Brevard, NC. A graveside ceremony will be held Monday, June 19, 2017 at 10:00 am at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. The Reverend Eddie Dodson will officiate.
