Obituary for Sammy Lee Hughey

Sammy Lee  Hughey
Sammy (Sam) Lee Hughey, age 66, passed away Monday night, July 17th at the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, NC. He was born on October 26th, 1950 in Crab Creek, NC to the late Willie Mae Hughey and one of ten children. He had four brothers: Jack Hughey, Bill Hughey, Ray Hughey, and Keith Hughey and five sisters: Peggy Hughey, Bobbie Jean Murray, Shirley Mills, Patsy Hughey, and Becky Martin.
In November of 1968, Sammy enlisted into the US Marine Corps and went through Boot Camp at Parris Island. From there, he was assigned to the 1st Battalion 9th Marines where he served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart.
Surviving is his wife of 36 years Sarah Goodson Hughey, son Richard Hughey and wife Misty of Campobello SC, daughter Valerie Tilson and husband Garrick Tilson of Brevard NC, daughter Lori Huntley and husband Scott of Hendersonville, son Adam Hughey and wife Jessica of Brevard, his brothers and sisters, and grandchildren Charlie, Zander, Charity, Chyna, Evan, Emily, Kyle, Brett and Grant. He was preceded in death by his niece, Debbie Jones, whom he loved dearly.
A military ceremony will be held at 2pm Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel followed by the receiving of family and friends.
