Obituary for Grover William Frisbee

Grover William Frisbee, 88, died September 24, 2017 at Tore’s Home of Brevard, N.C. He was born on December 7, 1928 to Marion and Mattie Frisbee of Spring Creek, N.C.
Grover loved the game of baseball. After graduating high school, he played for the Catham Blanketeers where he won the Sandlot Pitcher of the year in 1948. He signed to play for the Cincinnati Reds and was eventually sent to Utah to play for their Pioneer League team, the Ogden Reds. On February 17, 1951, he married Gladys Ricker of Hot Springs and continued to play for Ogden. Later that year, they returned to North Carolina for Grover to play baseball for Ecusta. He continued to work for Ecusta paper division until he retired. After retirement, he joined Gladys to operate their business, Grover’s Office Supply.
He was an active member of Brevard Wesleyan Church. He served in many capacities volunteering at the church and in the community.
Grover is survived by his sister, Ailene Green of Waynesville; two daughters and their spouses, Karen and Dan Sharpe and Sharon and Randy McManamay; two sons and their spouse, Randy and Sherri Frisbee and Greg and Janice Frisbee; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Grover is predeceased by his wife, Gladys; two brothers, Lewis and Kenneth; two sisters, Hazel Church and Gladys Beasley; and one great grandchild, Thomas McManamay.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 27 at Brevard Wesleyan Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM. Graveside rites will be in Pisgah Gardens Cemetery in Pisgah Forest.
