Obituary for Michael Bascom Arant Jr.
Michael Bascom Arant, Jr. of Hendersonville died peacefully at his home on January 14, 2018 just shy of his 90th birthday.
Michael was born on January 23, 1928 in Elloree, SC.
He is survived by his sister, Miriam Stevens of Pinehurst, NC. Also, his 3 children; Ellen Lee of Cedar Mountain, NC, Laura Rife of Sharon, MA, and Michael Arant III of Jonesboro, AR. He was “Pops” to 8 grandchildren and proud to have bounced 6 great-grandchildren upon his knee. He is preceded in death by his parents Michael and Emmie Arant, 1 brother, 5 sisters, his first wife, Hallie Arant, and his second wife, Barbara Arant.
He enjoyed keeping his mind sharp with countless Sudoku puzzles, traveling to find the best boiled peanuts with his sister, Miriam, and his weekly bridge nights. He will be remembered as a strong, tall man with a welcoming smile, booming laugh and comforting bear hugs. Our “Pops” will be greatly missed.
The memorial blessing and celebration will be held at the Cedar Mountain Cafe 10667 Greenville Highway on Saturday, January 27th 2018 at 3PM.
