Roscoe Hubert Ponder
Roscoe Hubert Ponder, 90, of Penrose passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at his home.

Born in Madison County, NC on April 16, 1927 to the late Cleophas and May Ponder. He was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters and one granddaughter, Mindy Ponder.

Mr. Ponder served his country as a combat engineer during WWII and the Korean War moved to Transylvania County in 1956 where he enjoyed playing guitar, chewing tobacco and coaching softball. He was a simple man who never met a stranger. He loved to sit on his front porch counting cars that passed by.

Survivors include the love of his life for 69 years, Grace Robinson Ponder; two sons, Ronnie Ponder and wife Diana of Penrose and Joey Ponder and wife Sherry of Rosman; two daughters, Dinna Norton of Little River and Cathy Bond and husband Keith of Little River; one sister, Zell Willis of Mars Hill, ten grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Mr. Ponder’s caregivers; Susie Finch, Micki Hughes, Becky Hines, Becka Teague and Patricia McMichael.

Funeral services will be held 3:30pm, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Little River Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris Farmer, Nelson Ponder and Bill Ponder. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 3:30pm. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the Transylvania County Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Little River Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 51 Little River Church Road, Penrose, NC 28766.
