Condolence: It's likely none of you except Dianne and Karen will know me, but I grew up next to Jake, or as some called him, JW. Jake was a year older than me yet he treated me better than most kids do at a young age. My day passed away just before my 13th birthday so Jake would have been about 14 and my mom convinced Jake to spend nights with me while she worked 3rd shift. I think Jake enjoyed that because his home was a little crowded. I won't go into details but I'm sure his younger sisters remember still.
Most adults around the Goins family liked and trusted Jake. As I read his accomplishments on this site I was in awe but not surprised. Jake had his head set on straight and showed remarkable determination at an early age. I only wish I had the self discipline he exuded.
Into high school and Jake was a year ahead of me but I'll always remember his morning devotions on the P.A. at school and I long for a time that our schools will once again not only allow that but celebrate it.
I haven't had the pleasure of being around Jake in over 50 years but I won't forget him. I pray for comfort on his wife, children, grandchildren and his sisters and all others close to Jake and I thank God I was fortunate enough to know him.
