Belva Ora Owen Gillespie went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 5, 2018.
She was born in Transylvania County on April 10, 1924 to the late Rufus W. and Florence Owen. She was also preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Fred Gillespie, seven brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Gillespie (Darlene), Sid Gillespie (Sheila); one daughter, Beverly Barnett (Tammie); five grandchildren, Elaine Hauss (Wilson), Crystal McCall (Ernie), Justin Gillespie, Treena Finney (Zachary), Tammy Johnson (Chris); eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson.
Mrs. Gillespie was a homemaker who taught her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren many life lessons. She loved her family, her church and her community. She was always there to listen and offer a helping hand to those in need. Her wisdom and wit will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Friday, March 9, 2018 at Cherryfield Baptist Church of which she was a lifelong member. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt. Moriah Cemetery Fund or to Cherryfield Baptist Church, 2970 Whitmire Rd., Brevard, NC 28712.
