Obituary for Donald Newland "Bud" Tinsley

Donald Newland "Bud" Tinsley
Donald Newland (Bud) Tinsley, 88 passed away at home surrounded by his family
On Sunday, March 11, 2018. A lifelong resident of Brevard, he was born on October 5, 1929 to the late Clarence, Sr. and Adele Flynn Tinsley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, C.E., Jr. and Charlie; his sisters, Lottie McClung, Christine Jackson, Mildred Williams and his grandson, Isaac W. Tinsley.

Bud was the 4th generation of Tinsleys to live and work on the family farm. He was an honest, hardworking man of integrity who put others first. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed telling hunting stories, spending time with his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand without being asked or acknowledged. But most of all, in the mid 1950’s, Bud gave his life to the Lord in a great move of God at the Wesleyan Methodist Church on Whitmire Street. This move of God resulted in the baptizing of approximately 60 souls.

Survivors include his devoted wife of almost 68 years, Martha Pressley Tinsley; his children, Sharon Hogsed and husband Mike, and Larry Tinsley and wife Lynne; grandsons, Trevor Hogsed and wife Sabrina, and Caleb Tinsley; granddaughters, Jessica Pressley and husband Sammy, and Hannah and Rebekah Tinsley; great-grandsons, Colby Hogsed, Drew and Cade Pressley; great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Megan Pressley; step great-granddaughters, Shai Pascoe and Kealey McDaniels; step great- great-granddaughter, Zoey Pascoe.

Graveside services will be held 2pm, Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with his son Evangelist Larry Tinsley and his pastor Richard Jelly officiating. Pallbearers will include his son in law, grandsons and great grandsons. The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Brevard Wesleyan Church where he was a member.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Brevard Wesleyan Church, 583 North Broad Street, Brevard, NC 28712 or the Faith Fund of Gideons International, Brevard Camp, PO Box 1380, Brevard, NC 28712.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Bud’s caregivers, Shirley’s Angels as well as the Hospice Doctors, nurses, social worker, aides and volunteers for all of their exceptional care, kindness and support.
