Obituary for Almeta Batson Ellenburg (Batson)
Almeta Batson Ellenburg, 89, of Brevard went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 25, 2018.
A native of Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Edward Lyons Batson and Etta Selena Garren. She was preceded in death by her husband William Delbert Ellenburg, brothers, Hubert, Homer, U. G., Woodard and Carroll Batson and sister, Nora Humphries.
Mrs. Ellenburg was a lifelong member of Carr’s Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, singing in a trio with her husband and daughter Mildred and singing in a ladies trio at church. She was a 1947 graduate of Brevard High School. Almeta was a hard worker and a devoted employee of the Cardinal Cleaners for 28 years. She also was employed by Village Cleaners and she was manager at Cassell’s United 5 and 10 for 12 years. She adored her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Mildred Owenby of Brevard, Pat Bailey and husband John of Pisgah Forest and Kathy Tinsley and husband Mike of Brevard, sister, Edna Adkins and husband Herbert of Ypsilanti, MI, grandchildren, Kimberly Nanney, Scott(Michele) Wilson, John (Kim) Bailey, Patrick (Amber) Bailey, Leanne (Vaugn) Guilliam, Katlyn(Josh) Laughter, Alex Tinsley, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and her special friends, the “Golden Girls”, Madge Salter, Maxine Tinsley and Peggy Heath.
Memorial donations may be made to the Carr’s Hill Baptist Church building fund, 2719 Greenville Hwy, Brevard, NC 28712.
Graveside services will be held 1pm, Friday, March 30, 2018 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. Memorial services will be held 3pm, Friday, March 30, 2018 at Carr’s Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Shane Hardesty officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the church.
