Obituary for Carol Ann Fisher (Richey)

Carol Ann (Richey) Fisher, 72, of Lake Toxaway, N.C. passed to her heavenly home on April 1, 2018. Carol was born January 8, 1946 in Anderson County SC to J.S. (Chub) and Ruby McJunkin Richey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Thomas (Sonny) Fisher; son, Brian Fisher; sister, Marlene Smith; and son-in-law, Robert Blackwell.
Carol is survived by daughters, Lisa Fisher (John Price) and Kim Mathis(Brent) both of Lake Toxaway; a sister, Ruth Mathis(Robert); brother, Gary Richey(Martha); grandchildren Melissa Price (Sean Smith), Megan Margau(Lucian), Clay Mathis; and great grandchildren Jonathan Landreth, Tucker Smith, and Preston Margau. She is also survived by uncle, Mac McJunkin of SC. She was embraced by her husband’s family years ago and has three sisters-at-heart, Doris Waldrop, Paulette Megee, and Lois Owen. She has numerous nieces and nephews.
Carol and her siblings were born in SC. Their mother passed at a young age and soon after she married and moved to NC their father passed. Carol and her siblings all ended up in NC together and Carol and Sonny took on the responsibility of raising her younger brother Gary, as well, as 3 children of their own. Carol’s children and grandchildren were blessed to call her mama and she affectionately became known as Mama C or Mama Carol to lots of family and friends.
Carol retired from Ecusta after 25+ years and then worked for Transylvania Community Hospital for 5+ years. She was a selfless person who sacrificed and always put her family first. She was an excellent cook and still made Sunday dinners which her family looked forward to. She loved vacationing and traveling especially to the beach where many memories have been made with family and friends through the years. She was also content at home and enjoyed having her family close by. She was loved and adored by her family and had developed an especially close relationship with her grandson, Jonathan, whom she helped care for the last years of her life.
Those who want to celebrate Carol’s life are invited to do so at Faith Baptist Church in Lake Toxaway where she was a member on Saturday April 7. Visitation will be at 1230 PM and the service will follow at 2 PM with Pastor, Kyle Reese officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Shriners (Shriners Hospitals for Children 950 W Faris Rd, Greenville SC 29605) where Jonathan has been a patient.
