Obituary for Edwin "Eddie" Owen

Edwin "Eddie" Owen
Edwin “Eddie Boy” R. Owen, age 78, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Mission St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville.
He was born on November 27, 1939 in Transylvania County, NC to the late Claude and Minnie (Galloway) Owen. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Darla Owen; brothers, Tommy “Peanut” and Donnie; sister, Jean Davis; great-nephew, Lachlan Tannery.
He was a 1957 graduate of Brevard High School and proud to have never missed a single day of school.
He was a loving husband to his wife Dorinda (Davis). They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on September 27th. Together they had four daughters whom he loved dearly. As a lifelong dedicated member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church, he served the Lord and his community by visiting the sick and shut-in and maintaining the church cemetery. In 1992, the Governor of North Carolina conferred upon him The Order of the Long Leaf Pine award for his efforts to improve vocational education. He retired from Ecusta paper mill in 1998 after 41 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and watching races but above all he loved time spent with family.
Survivors include his wife Dorinda; daughters, Dawn Ingram (Randy), Denise (Phil) Greer, and Diane (David) Cothran; adopted daughter, Bistra Hristova; grandchildren, Matthew Mann, Julian (Cheri) Chaves, Tyler (Annie) Greer, Jordan Greer, and Katie Cothran; great-grandchildren, Julie Chaves and Emma Greer; brothers, Ted (Carolyn), Ronnie (Nancy), Larry (Betty), Steve (Linda); sister, Deb (Spud) Ayers; in-laws, Phyllis Owen, Bill Davis, Evelyn Owen; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved pet Sophie.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Turkey Creek Baptist Church, 805 Capps Rd., Pisgah Forest with Rev. Jason Kittrell officiating. The family will greet friends for a viewing at the church on Sunday from 2:00 pm until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to honor Eddie’s wishes and have contributions made to the Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Shriners (Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 950 W Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605, 864-255-8765).
Moody-Connolly Life Celebrations is caring for the family.
