Dorothy Ann Griffin (Queen)
Dorothy Ann Queen Griffin, age 89, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018. She was born to Bessie Woods Queen and Carl Queen on September 14, 1928. Mrs. Griffin was a native of Transylvania County and lived there all her life. She married Howard Griffin on March 9, 1944.
She drew enjoyment from gardening and flowers, was a lover of mountain music, and enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband.
Mrs. Griffin was employed at Gwynn Valley Camp and Brevard Elementary School Cafeteria. As a child at age 12, she was employed as a maid at a boarding house which is now Moody Connolly Funeral Home. She retired in 1987 from Ecusta Paper Mill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters Pauline Queen, Leola Hilton and Fannie Bell Smith, a daughter Linda Griffin, and grandson Garrett Buchanan.
Everyone that knew or worked with her loved her. Mama was quick with a hug and a smile. People always commented on her beautiful hair and porcelain skin.
She will be sorely missed by her children; son Bill Griffin and his wife Carolyn Griffin; daughter Sandra Griffin; son Dennis Griffin and his wife Cathy Griffin; son Kenneth Griffin; her brother Derrell Smith and his wife Geraldine Smith. Her grandchildren include Shelby Setzer, Kim Whitaker, Bryan Griffin, Casey Lance, Abby Bottoms, Matthew Griffin, and Katherine Griffin. She had nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She was a gift from God to the Griffin family and her numerous friends and neighbors. She left a great legacy behind not only for her family, but her friends and those that knew her.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
