Obituary for Charles Thomas Roe

Charles Thomas  Roe
Charles Thomas Roe, age 94, died at his home on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 with his family by his side.

He was born on March 11, 1924 in Silver Pointe, TN to the late Charles Cox Roe and Alice Rosavelt Clouse Roe. He was also preceded in death by his wife of over 74 years, Jessie Gwendolyn Chapman Roe; two sons, John Garfield and Christopher Mark; a grandson, Duane Jeffrey “Jeff”; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Ann Harwood Roe, son-in-law, Richard Dahl Bazley sisters, Anna “Rosa” Rozella and Victoria Phoebe Roe Rio, brothers, Dr. John Marvin Roe, Dr. Jack Michael Roe, David Leo Roe and Clarence Cox Roe and five brothers-in-law, Garfield Isaac Chapman, Harvey Frank Lavender, Samuel Rio, Fred Hawkins and Carlos “Puddy” Turner, sisters-in-law, Rose Marie Burnett (wife of Jack)and Virginia Ann Adams(wife of David).

Charles was the oldest of eight children. He met his wife Jessie in Michigan at the age of 18. He and Jessie eloped and went to Roswell, GA. He was a veteran of World War II, a U. S. Marine, PVT 1st class and a rated sharp shooter. He has held many jobs over the course of his life, a sawmill in Tennessee, a venetian blind factory in Detroit, MI, assembly worker at Dodge Main in MI, McCullough chain saws in Lake Havasu City, AZ, HVAC in MI and a tool and die worker in MI. Most of his life he farmed in Cookeville and Pineville, TN. He was an avid gardener. He loved to work outdoors. He enjoyed woodworking. He was also a skilled cabinet and furniture maker.

Survivors include sons, Charles Gwinn and wife Michelle of Costa Mesa, CA and Thomas Scott Roe of Pisgah Forest, daughter, Billie Pamelia Roe Moss Bazley of Brevard, sister, Nancy Ellen Roe Turner of Cookeville, TN, sister-in-law, Billie Mae Chapman Lavender Hawkins of Hendersonville, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2pm, Saturday, July 7, 2018 in the chapel of Moody-Connolly Life Celebrations. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
