Catherine Rose Schmidt, age 77 of Brevard, died on Sunday, July 29, 2018 after a brief illness at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina.
She was born on October 18, 1940, in Queens General Hospital in Elmhurst, NY to the late Hugo R. Schmidt and Helen Gaal Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Schmidt Weilenmann.
Catherine earned multiple educational degrees, including an MBA. She attended PS 136 in Queens, NY; high school at St. Joseph’s Academy in Portland, Maine; college at St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine; and graduate school at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. She worked as a management accountant and retired from the United States Social Security Administration. She moved from New York City to Brevard in 1999 where she enjoyed the mountain air and the agreeable environment of Transylvania County.
Survivors include her brother Robert C. Schmidt and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11am, Friday, August 3, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard with Father Shawn O’Neal officiating.
