Her father was a banker, and his bank was across the street from a drug store where she met her future pharmacist husband, William C. Vaughn. After marriage, she and Bill moved to Pueblo, Colorado, and later to San Antonio, Texas, where Bill became a vice-president of the summers Drug Store chain. In 1956, Nadene and Bill opened their own business, a belytone Hearing Aid dealership in Alexandria, Louisiana, which they operated until retirement in 1989. At the urging of Nadene’s daughter and son-in-law, they moved to Brevard and College Walk Retirement Community where they resided happily for a number of years until health issues required their moving to Ivy Hill Health and Retirement, now known as The Oaks of Brevard. Nadene was active in the communities where she lived. She was president of the San Antonio Optimist Club and an officer of the State of Louisiana board of hearing Aid Dealers. After moving to Brevard, she became active with the Transylvania County Arts Council, where she served as a part –time receptionist at the organization’s 7 E. Main location. She was dedicated to the health of downtown Brevard, and was a benefactor for the Heart of Brevard downtown revitalization organization. She was a member of Scred Heart Catholic Church. Nadene was preceded in death by her husband, William; her only child, Carol Rowe; two sisters and a brother. She is survived by two grandsons, Robert Rowe and wife Jessica of Pisgah Forest and Steven Rowe and wife Jun of Carmel, Indiana; four great grandchildren; her son-in-law Jim Rowe and friend Patricia LaPedus. Nadene was known affectionately as “Lollipops” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, a most appropriate name for such a sweet, kind and cheerful lady. The family would like to thank the staff of The Oaks of Brevard for their care for Nadene over the nine years she lived there. The family wants to acknowledge also, the wonderful care and friendship she received for many years from caregivers Marcia Matheson, Christine McCall, Anita Orr and others of Transylvania Regional Hospital Home Care; and spiritual support and friendship of Dick Smith, Gloria Wilson and the Scred Heart Ladies Guild. A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00am Wednesday November 11, 2009 conducted by Father Carl T. Del Giudice with burial to follow at Pisgah Gardens.
