Obituary for Martha "Jean" Nelson
Brevard - Martha “Jean” Nelson died on September 15, 2015 at the age of 77 after a short battle with cancer.
Jean was born on October 10, 1937 in Miami, Florida to father Andrew Jackson Tanner and mother Edith Davidson Tanner. She was preceded in death by both parents and her infant son, Leslie Charles Nelson II.
She devoted much of her life to her family. She lived a major portion of her life in Goldsboro, NC, and then relocated to Brevard, NC in the 1990’s. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final months.
She is survived by her three children: Edie Crowell, Amy Nelson, and Drew Nelson along with his spouse Shelly Nelson; five grandchildren, Chris McFarland, Adam Crowell, Zach Nelson, Matthew Crowell and Jessie Nelson; and two sisters; Joy Bomar and Jacque Jones of Memphis, TN.
Jean requested no public services be held in her honor. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Elizabeth House for their excellent loving care and work; and the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, for making the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, any remembrances and contributions should be made to TADC Group Home, 830 Probart Street, Brevard, NC 28712.
