Pisgah Forest - Douglas Richard (Dick) Queen, age 71, Pisgah Forest, NC went to be with the Lord Friday, February 3, 2017. He entered the gates of heaven surrounded by the family he loved so much and who loved him beyond measure.

He was the son of the late Harrison W Queen and Lillian Wilkerson Queen. He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Glenda Queen, brother David Queen, daughters Tina Street (Ken) and Terri Heatherly (James), of Hendersonville, NC, Michelle Williamson (Lee) of Carrollton, Ga. Grandsons Dalton Street, Jordan Heatherly (Ashton), Joshua Heatherly, Harley Williamson, Jackson Williamson, Cole Williamson and great granddaughter Artemis Heatherly.

Dick worked at the Winn Dixie while in High School and went to work at DuPont in 1964 retiring after 38 years. An avid fly fisherman he could tell you about fishing every stream in the county, either with his dad, daughter, grandsons or fishing buddies from work.

A graduate of Brevard High School Class of 1964 he loved his class mates, especially the group from the old Pisgah Forest Elementary. A veteran of the US Army, he spent 2 years in Germany and ten years as a Drill Sergeant in the Army Reserve.

He loved to travel and while serving in Germany, he and his loving wife traveled to several other countries and celebrated their first anniversary in Paris. After returning to the States, vacations were spent camping and traveling to many of the States with family or friends. The Blue Ridge Parkway was a favorite drive and he often called it the highway to heaven. Cades Cove in Tennessee was another favorite.

Dick loved to share a meal with family and friends and could tell you the very best places to eat. He never met a stranger, loved and was loved by everyone who knew him.

Funeral services will be held 3pm, Monday, February 6th, 2017 at Pisgah Forest Baptist Church. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with full military honors. The family will receive friends beginning at 1pm at the church.

The family thanks the many doctors and nurses, especially in the Oncology Unit at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. He loved meeting and talking with fellow veterans and said he felt better just going through the doors.
